Amphorae 2

An exercise imagining how ancient amphorae, used to transport wine, oil and fish sauce, may appear today. Amphorae were made from clay and typically have two handles, a narrow neck and a pointed base, which allowed for efficient, stable stacking in ship holds. They are frequently discovered on the Mediterranean seabed, often indicating ancient shipwrecks. These bottles have been hand-formed in Porcelain and saggar-fired with seaweed and copper. Hung by linen cord from a single button style stainless steel hook.

Dimensions for each individual bottle L 65cm, W 13cm, D 12cm
