Chrysalis

A chrysalis is a butterfly pupa, the word comes from the Greek for gold - butterflies often have a brighter pupa than other insects. The raku glazes on the outside of the chrysalis are just a hint of the beautiful butterfly colours hidden within the chrysalis skin. In recent years, many butterfly species have become extinct, whilst many more are in decline due to habitat loss, pesticides and climate change. These pupa were cast in Porcelain and raku-fired, hung from steel within an oak frame.
